Our story

Between two worlds, a home took shape.

Mila began as something deeply personal: a way of finding my way back to Kenya.

I was born here, but raised in Germany. For much of my life, I carried two places within me. Kenya remained my origin — present through family, memory, instinct and a sense of belonging that never completely disappeared. Germany shaped my eye for structure, detail, function and considered design.

For a long time, those two parts of my identity seemed to exist separately. Mila became the place where they could finally meet.

The residences bring together the warmth, colour and natural ease of the Kenyan coast with a quieter European approach to simplicity, craftsmanship and thoughtful living. The intention was never to imitate a hotel or create a resort removed from its surroundings. Mila was imagined as a home: personal, generous and easy to inhabit.

Mila continues to grow through the hands of local carpenters, artists, makers, chefs and housekeepers. Every room holds something of both worlds, but the soul of Mila belongs unmistakably to Kenya.

Born in Kenya. Shaped in Europe. Brought together in Diani.

Stay longer

The coast can also be your office.

Mila is designed for guests who want to combine time away with the freedom to work remotely. Daily housekeeping keeps the residence running quietly in the background, the chef can prepare meals, and groceries can be stocked before arrival. When the workday ends, the pool is downstairs and Diani Beach is within easy reach.

Experiences

Make the stay your own.

A stay at Mila can remain beautifully simple, or it can be shaped with experiences arranged especially for you — before or during your stay.

Secret Beach

Four hours beyond the familiar

Leave the more familiar stretches of Diani behind for a four-hour escape to one of the south coast's most beautiful beaches — selected according to the tide, weather and conditions of the day. Time to swim, walk the shore, enjoy lunch and let the afternoon unfold. Not a rushed excursion: a few hours made spacious.

An optional extra, from KES 8,000. Includes return transport, four hours at the selected beach, lunch, soft drinks and water. Alcoholic beverages may be arranged at an additional cost.

In-Villa Spa

The art of staying in

Our trusted beauty and wellness professionals come directly to Mila. Choose a massage after a day in the sun, make time for a manicure or pedicure, arrange hair braiding or book one of Diani's most recommended barbers. Everything comes to you.

Massage · manicure · pedicure · hair braiding · barber & grooming. Advance booking recommended; subject to availability.

Private Chef

The coast, cooked at home

Our private chef specialises in Swahili cuisine alongside international dishes — coconut-rich curries, grilled seafood, fragrant rice, seasonal vegetables and familiar favourites, prepared in your own kitchen and adapted to your stay.

KES 3,000 per day for one, two or three meals. Groceries charged separately. Larger groups may require a chef's assistant at additional cost.

Guest Laundry

Taken care of, while you stay

Washed, sun-dried, ironed and neatly folded. Next-day delivery depends on the load and the weather — share any special care instructions in advance.

Available at an additional cost.

Celebrate

For moments that deserve more

A table beneath the evening sky. Flowers placed quietly before someone enters the room. Mila can be shaped around anniversaries, birthdays, proposals and intimate gatherings — working with trusted local chefs, florists, stylists, bakers, musicians and photographers to create arrangements that feel personal rather than pre-packaged.

Every occasion begins with a conversation — share the date, guests and atmosphere and we prepare a personalised proposal. All celebrations, events and additional visitors require prior approval. Private celebration fee from KES 50,000; refundable security deposit KES 100,000 (larger gatherings may require more).

Make the stay your own

Local hands. Lasting pieces.

At Mila, sustainability does not begin with grand claims. It begins by looking around us before looking elsewhere. Many objects within the residences are produced locally with Kenyan carpenters, artisans, artists and independent makers — furniture built nearby, decorative pieces shaped by hand, artwork and textiles chosen for their connection to place. Through our work with Jua, Mila continues to introduce pieces that celebrate Kenyan materials and craftsmanship.

Made locally

Furniture, decorative objects and practical pieces are commissioned from Kenyan craftspeople whenever possible.

Chosen to last

Durable, repairable materials and objects designed to age with character.

Rooted in craft

Traditional knowledge and contemporary design meet throughout the residences.

Built through relationships

Mila grows through long-term collaboration with the people behind each piece.

Some pieces remain part of Mila. Others are available to take home — browse The Mila Edit.

Eat in Diani

A few of our favourite tables

Diani's dining scene moves easily between refined evenings, barefoot lunches and places whose stories deserve to be known. These are some of the tables we return to.
